THE NEW YORK CITY COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS LAUNCHES “WHILE BLACK” CAMPAIGN

It’s about to get real for corporate racists because the New York City Commission on Human Rights has newly launched a campaign titled, “While Black“. Meant to target individuals with darker skin tone who experience discrimination while simply walking, shopping, or doing any of a list of mundane activities that most humans do, but yet face clear discrimination simply because of their race or heritage.

The campaign strives to reach all New Yorkers with the very poignant message that business owners, employers, property managers, etc. can and will be held legally liable for targeting minorities because of the color of their skin. The goal of the campaign is to affirm to all Black and Brown people that you have the absolute right to live your life free of the pain, the humiliation, and the emotional distress that race-based bias and discrimination causes.

Carmelyn P. Malalis, the Commissioner and Chair of the New York Commission on Human Rights asserts:

This campaign references the deep connections between the fight against anti-Black racism and the fight for human rights.  It affirms the experiences of Black people who have been targeted for discrimination, harassment and intimidation while simply going about their day-to-day lives, and puts those who would seek to discriminate, harass or intimidate Black New Yorkers on notice that bigotry and bias will not be tolerated in our city.

So basically, Whole Foods.

If you have experienced being followed while Black at Whole Foods Market or faced racial discrimination at any New York City retailer, bank, employment agency, broker, or employer, please do report the discrimination to the NYCCHR at 718-722-3131. Please feel free to also fill out an online form to report the discrimination HERE.

It is your human right to live free of bias and discrimination while Black!!

DEAR TECH COMPANY – WHOLE FOODS STORE SURVEILLANCE EDITION

Dear Whole Foods security and surveillance team.

How do you use the thousands of Whole Foods customer photos that you capture and store in your security surveillance database? Who do you sell that information to? Who do you share that information with?

How many women are misclassified in your surveillance database as men?

How many individuals are misclassified in your surveillance database as having a criminal history? What is the measurement error of that?

How many individuals are misclassified in your surveillance database as undocumented?

How many individuals are misclassified in your surveillance database as homeless?

How many individuals are misclassified in your surveillance database as suspicious?

How many women have their home address, their work address, their vehicle make and model, their median income, their marriage status, their occupation pop-up on your surveillance screen the very second that they walk into a Whole Foods Market to buy lentils?

How many women are followed by an undercover loss prevention officer while shopping at Whole Foods because your little surveillance screen misclassifies them as having a predisposition to criminality?

How many individuals, on average, does your biased surveillance AI racially profile?

Since when did buying groceries become so f****ng taxing?

THE WEAPONIZATION OF FACIAL RECOGNITION SOFTWARE – WHOLE FOODS RETAIL EDITION

Ever wondered why they’re following YOU specifically?

According to a recent article published by the New York Times, MIT research has shown that facial recognition software is not coded to correctly identify and classify human beings of all genders, skin tones, and facial structures without demonstrating a biased output that benefits mostly White males. Though some facial recognition software systems claim to have the technology to detect criminality in the faces of public citizens, Amazon’s face surveillance technology Rekognition in fact falsely identified 28 members of Congress as criminals in a user test conducted by the American Civil Liberties Union.

Rekogition software has a 32% error rate in analyzing the faces of women or color

Despite the data-science proof of gender and racial bias in Amazon’s retail surveillance software, women and men of all races and backgrounds continue to be surveilled, monitored, and their images stored in Amazon’s facial recognition database for private use and/or possible misuse. Unregulated and unchecked by any agency.

To read more about Amazon’s commercial facial analysis system Rekogntion, and how it may be affecting you, your family, and your community, please take the time to read any of the below sources about the algorithmically race based bias in surveillance software:

TO WHOLE FOODS WITH LOVE, FROM THE MIDWEST – WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH EDITION

A retiree whom has lead an otherwise blameless life recounts her story of being chronically stalked while shopping at Whole Foods Market.

Happy Women’s History Month!!

I reside in northwest Indiana and was especially excited when Whole Foods opened approximately three years ago in Schererville, Indiana. As a retired senior Black woman with good income, who is honest to a fault, I found myself being obviously profiled and stalked throughout the store by an incompetent loss prevention specialist. Mind you, over three years I have spent thousands in this store. This individual made no attempt to conceal his motives [as he usually has] no cart or basket [with] a loud yellow earbud cord dangled from his ear. It took all of my resolve not to confront this upstart and ask why he was following me.

In this instance I had an idea. I was Black. But after googling “Whole Foods, Racism” and finding this website, it might be safe to conclude that this is [widely] systemic and encouraged. A playbook for [the Whole Foods] loss prevention specialists. In [Indiana] hiring local racists in these positions provides them with enhanced incentives.

At this point I shall rethink my shopping options…[and while] brick and mortar retailers tank daily, thought should be given to the methods used to protect inventories as hard working, honest people of color are unfairly treated just because. [When shoppers turn to online retailers] where will all of the loss prevention racists go? Perhaps they had better really sharpen their tech skills.

Thank you for providing this platform. Keep the impacted public aware of this incredible social climate. Trumpism and emboldened racism won’t last forever.

NEW YORK ARTIST BRINGS $10 MILLION LAWSUIT AGAINST WHOLE FOODS – WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH EDITION

Whole Foods Market and partner in crime Elite Security take another L at the top of 2019, as the lawsuits continue to pile up.  A New York artist, activist, and performer has filed a lawsuit against Whole Foods Market and its crime fam Elite Security for damages suffered as a result of an assault that took place at the Whole Foods Bowery location in August, 2018.

As shown in the video, the undercover loss prevention goon allegedly served up her assault soufflé on the Houston Street sidewalk, while clearly agitated that the shopper caught her reprehensible actions on camera.

Since Whole Foods and Elite will likely go to great lengths to protect her identity we will just refer to her as alias “Bruce Leroy” from here on out.

This particular lawsuit is an interesting one, as it has sparked my curiosity about inconsistencies and pieces of information that don’t quite add up.  First and foremost the initial complaint names Elite Security Personnel LLC as a Delaware corporation, but I am unable to find an Elite Security Personnel LLC registered in the state of Delaware.  Yet I am able to find a company called Elite Security Personnel Inc. registered in the state of Delaware as well as an Elite Security Personnel LLC registered with the New York State Department of State as a security guard company.  However, and this is where I am all the way lost, Elite Security Personnel LLC in New York has ZERO licensed security guards on its state licensing roster.

ZERO.  LICENSED.  SECURITY.  GUARDS.

So though Elite Security Personnel LLC may be parading itself as the security company that provides security guard services for Whole Foods Market, the NYS Department of State licensing check does not indicate that that company actually has personnel who are licensed to provide security services.  It is a requirement by the NYS Department of State for a licensed provider of services to display its current roster of licensed personnel on the state’s website.

$10 MILLION MYSTERY

Even more odd, in my own research I personally went undercover as an individual pretending to be interested in a security guard job at the Union Square Whole Foods, and was shown start paperwork that had Elite Investigations clearly in the header of the document. So something is amiss with the way that Elite Investigations, Elite Security Personnel LLC, and whatever other “Elite” will pop up now as a result of a clear attempt to avoid legal liability for human rights violations and negligence.

We wish the New York woman good luck in her attempt to hold Whole Foods legally responsible for their actions in this case. Happy Women’s History Month!

WHOLE FOODS MARKET’S BINDERS FULL OF WOMEN – SPECIAL TREATMENT EDITION

In our ongoing celebration of Women’s History Month at Whole Foods Market, we pay our sincerest respect to the women employees of Whole Foods Market who are threatened, demoted, given a reduction in hours, disciplined, or fired because of a disability due to pregnancy.

In April, 2018 Whole Foods Market paid out more than $60,000 in civil penalties for the mistreatment of a New York City employee after she became pregnant.

Around the same time in Spring of 2018, another Whole Foods employee in Florida, Kissie Moore, also brought a lawsuit against Whole Foods Market for pregnancy and racial discrimination after being terminated upon returning back to work from maternity leave.

Notwithstanding Whole Foods’s pattern of special treatment towards selected individuals, we will honor women everyday here at Whole Foods Mafia during Women’s History Month.

BRINGING BLACK HISTORY MONTH TO AN END, MEDIUM.COM ASKS A VERY VALID QUESTION ABOUT THE intrinsic RACIAL BIAS OF WHOLE FOODS MARKET

As Black History Month comes to an end, digital publication Medium explores the very, very real probability that Whole Foods Market is intrinsically and systemically racist to its core. A thoughtful piece born from the personal experience of its writer Alexa Kocinski, “Does Whole Foods Have A Problem With Black People” appears to echo the complaints of many minority former Whole Foods employees: that Whole Foods Market systematically denies minority employees the same opportunities as non-minority employees.

Notwithstanding the dozens of racial, gender, and disability discrimination lawsuits in which Whole Foods Market is currently a litigant, this first hand witness account of how Whole Foods uses a discriminatory process to select and/or to hold back women and people of color in its human resources operations is extremely disturbing.

It’s with that prologue that I need to recount what I just saw at a Whole Foods…The young woman seemed pretty enthused. I should note at this point that she was black, because that matters. After the handshake and a few initial questions, the man interviewing her, who was white, told her that the only positions available were for dishwashers. My eyes flickered at this and I felt the hairs on the back of my neck raise, not unlike my reaction to certain suspenseful scenes in thrillers. Of course, this was all happening pretty fast, but something in my gut told me to stop writing and pay full attention. The girl, without missing a beat, said she was absolutely interested. I heard her say that it “would be perfect for me right now.” The man hired her on the spot and mentioned the pay. “It’s $15 an hour. That’s pretty good for a dishwasher,” he said. Which, like, ugh. But okay. Maybe he was genuinely happy for her or proud of Bezos raising the pay bar or something.

After lying to the young lady and telling her that only a dishwasher position was available at that time, the hiring manager then gladly offered his next interviewee, a white gentleman, a cashier position.

Please do take the time to read this important and insightful article in its entirety here at Medium.com, giving the full context of this disgraceful and discriminatory account of what can only be described as employment racial discrimination at Whole Foods.

ENTITLED WHOLE FOODS SECURITY GUARD PUTS SHOPPER IN SLEEPER CHOKEHOLD, NEARLY CHOKES THE LIFE OUT OF HIM

In another chapter from You Can’t Make Any Of This Up, a former Whole Foods shopper and New York resident was put into a sleeper chokehold and assaulted to unconsciousness at the Harlem Whole Foods location.

Man shopping at Whole Foods put into chokehold and strangled for shopping while Black

The surveillance video clearly shows the security guard wrap his arms firmly around the neck of the native South American gentleman who had been shopping, and strangle him until his body went completely limp, falling to the concrete floor while shocked shoppers looked on with their families.

The choke hold move is the same maneuver that a police officer used on Staten Island resident Eric Garner for appearing to sell “loosie” cigarettes, causing his swift death.

The former Whole Foods customer has now filed a lawsuit against Whole Foods and against their in-store gangsters masquerading as security, Elite Investigations, for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of distress.  Since Elite Investigations is not a corrupt organization, they have been forthcoming with the identity of the “loss prevention officer” that nearly killed the Whole Foods customer.

But wait, there’s more!  Because the kale apparently comes with a side of drama when you’re perusing fresh produce at Whole Foods and you happen to be a minority!

Whole Foods will likely deny any of this ever happened as they have mastered the art of  avoiding accountability for discrimination and bias.  Unapologetically.

HISPANIC MAN RACIALLY PROFILED BY WHOLE FOODS IN FLORIDA, LAWYERS UP

A hispanic man in Coral Gables, Florida, lawyers up after being singled out and told to leave a Whole Foods Market for shopping while brown.

The Whole Foods manager allegedly had a police officer tell the Spanish speaking man that Whole Foods is “only for customers”, meaning his patronage was not welcome there as he was instructed to swiftly exit the premises.

The man’s lawyer expresses that he was targeted, humiliated, and “because of Whole Foods’ racial profiling, [her client] was submitted to a walk of shame,” simply for shopping while brown at a retailer that is widely known for this.

CORPORATE CRIME FAM TRIO PUTTING RESOURCES TOWARDS THE HARASSMENT OF NEW YORK WRITER

Dear Whole Foods Mafia readers.

Okay I’ve got to put the Whole Foods Mob Family Tree on blast once again because the man seen in the photos below was outside of my apartment building this afternoon snapping pictures of me to enter into Amazon’s facial recognition surveillance database.  Apparently I am famous now so I asked him to make sure to get my good side.  I’m hoping that he honored that. It would have been really cool if he could have stalked me all the way to Trader Joe’s and got candids of me walking in without being  racially profiled and creepily stalked by undercover loss prevention officers.

Still the same ol’ me, I am now fearless girl with a bullet proof vest on.

BLACK MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER RACIALLY PROFILED AT WHOLE FOODS, RECORDS THE INCIDENT ON HIS PHONE

Another Whole Foods supermarket security guard was just following the Whole Foods Market corporate security procedures, making sure he monitored and surveilled the Black one.  MAKING SURE he paid.  Because Black.

“Whole Foods I will never in life purchase anything from you…My cousin…he stops at Whole Foods, ‘Let me get some oatmeal, eat me some breakfast’.  In the process of eating his breakfast, he’s talking on the phone, and Whole Foods security walks up on him talkin’ about, ‘So you just going to eat that in here and not pay for it?’  What the f*** would make you think he didn’t pay for it?  Security didn’t walk up to anybody else!”    – Anonymous

EXISTING WHILE BLACK: HUFFINGTON POST EXPLORES THE PHENOMENON

Friends at Huffington Post have published a piece that explores the reality of individuals of color who are unfairly treated suspiciously while doing seemingly mundane things, like EXISTING.

While this concept is very foreign to others, simply because they are free of the emotional burden created by the pattern of being treated like a criminal as a person of color is, Huffington Post comments:

“What does it feel like when every move you make is policed?”

[People of color] don’t have the privilege to simply exist in peace…Whether we’ve been pulled over and mistaken for a suspect [or] followed in stores…many of us have had to go above and beyond to prove that we have the right to occupy common spaces. Many of us have had to prove that we are not criminals, knowing that failing to do so could be fatal.

HuffPost asked black readers to share their stories of being subjected to racial profiling and discrimination. They [recalled] how maddening it is to live with the constant anxiety of possibly having their presence — and innocence — questioned.”  via Huffington Post
